Habitat for Humanity is a volunteer-driven organization. We welcome people from all walks of life to join us as we build simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with God and families in need. There are many opportunities for volunteering with Habitat for Humanity of Northeast Connecticut. Most people think first of working on a house. While that is indeed where a majority of volunteer hours are accumulated, Habitat volunteers contribute more than muscle. Creativity, strategy, and technical skills are among the many other invaluable traits volunteers bring to the organization. We need volunteers to work in the office, to help implement fund raising and public relations activities and to serve on one of the standing committees that guide the future of our affiliate.

Though the vast majority of our site building volunteers have no construction experience or building skills, all are involved in most phases of construction. Our site manager makes everyone comfortable by providing detailed instructions so they can complete their tasks successfully. By working side-by-side with the family who will live in the house, our volunteers experience for themselves the joy created when a family is able to realize their dream of home ownership.

With a minimal staff, Habitat for Humanity of Northeast Connecticut depends upon volunteer services to operate our ReStore, a volunteer-run building materials recycling center.

We invite you to help us build, assist in the office, work in the ReStore, serve on a committee or help with special projects that benefit the organization. Time commitments vary; some volunteers dedicate an hour per week and some give every day of the week to Habitat. Choose to volunteer as little or as often as you would like. All of these positions are a tremendous help that directly or indirectly result in the construction of simple, decent homes.

Volunteer Groups are also a unique catalyst in the process of creating a new home for a family. Invariably, the presence of a volunteer group instills a new energy into a project. Past participating groups all report that the experience was a wonderful team building opportunity.
